Copernicus elige como imagen del día la costa oeste de Florida antes y después del huracán ‘Milton’

MADRID (EUROPA PRESS).- Copernicus eligió como imagen del día una foto de la costa oeste de Florida tomada por la misión Sentinel-2 el 29 de septiembre y el 14 de octubre, antes y después del paso del huracán ‘Milton’ el día 9.
El componente de observación de la Tierra del programa espacial de la Unión Europea (UE) explicó que ‘Milton’ ha sido el tercer huracán que más rápido se ha intensificado de la historia y recordó que pasó a ser de categoría 5 en menos de 24 horas antes de caer a categoría 3 antes de llegar a la costa.
A su vez, ha hecho referencia al estudio de World Weather Attribution en el que científicos han afirmado que la ferocidad de Milton se vio exacerbada por el calentamiento global. Según ha señalado, las temperaturas marinas de récord en el Golfo de México contribuyeron de manera significativa a la fuerza del huracán.
Como resultado de las tormentas, la tierra y los sedimentos fueron transportados a las desembocaduras de los ríos, lo que se puede ver en el contraste entre el agua clara y más oscura en la imagen más reciente. Según el organismo, los datos abiertos de Copernicus permiten a los investigadores comprender mejor los fenómenos meteorológicos extremos en todo el mundo ante el cambio climático y, al mismo tiempo, proporcionan a las autoridades información para mitigar sus impactos en las poblaciones afectadas.
