(France24).- El médico Mark Chávez presentó este miércoles su declaración de culpabilidad por la muerte del actor Matthew Perry, en una comparecencia ante el Tribunal de Distrito de los Estados Unidos en Los Ángeles.
Chávez, que podría enfrentar hasta 10 años de prisión, se declaró culpable de conspirar para distribuir el anestésico quirúrgico ketamina.
El médico de 54 años presentó una declaración de culpabilidad por este delito grave y se convirtió en la tercera persona en admitir su culpabilidad tras la muerte de la estrella de “Friends” el año pasado.
Otro médico acusado en el caso, Salvador Plasencia, se declaró inocente, al igual que el coacusado Jasveen Sangha, conocido como la “reina de la ketamina” y de quien las autoridades afirman que era un proveedor ilícito de la droga y era. Está previsto que ambos sean juzgados en marzo del próximo año.
El asistente personal de Perry, Kenneth Iwamasa, quien admitió haberle inyectado ketamina a Perry, y el presunto intermediario que dijo haber obtenido ketamina de Sangha, ya se declararon culpables de los cargos que enfrentaban.
Las autoridades aseguran que Plasencia le compró ketamina a Chávez. Y, en mensajes de texto, discutiendo lo que le cobraría a Perry por la droga, Plasencia escribió: “Me pregunto cuánto pagará este idiota”.
Plasencia le administró ketamina a Perry y le suministró medicamentos viales que fueron inyectados por el asistente, según documentos judiciales.

Perry murió a los 54 años en octubre de 2023 por “efectos agudos” de la ketamina y otros factores que le hicieron perder el conocimiento y ahogarse en su jacuzzi, según un informe de autopsia de diciembre de 2023.
El actor había reconocido públicamente décadas de abuso de sustancias, incluso durante los años en que interpretó a Chandler Bing en la exitosa comedia televisiva de los años 90 “Friends”.
Matt Binninger, abogado de Chávez, explicó a los periodistas en agosto que su cliente estaba “haciendo todo lo que estaba a su alcance para cooperar y ayudar en esta situación”.
“Está increíblemente arrepentido”, aseguró Binninger.
El abogado agregó que el arrepentimiento de Chávez no se debía a que Perry era una celebridad, sino al hecho de que “alguien que estaba tratando de buscar tratamiento murió”.
