NUEVA YORK (AP) — Góticos, ¡regocijaos!, The Cure ha lanzado música nueva.
“Alone”, su primera canción en 16 años, se estrenó en el programa de radio BBC 6 Music de Mary Anne Hobbs el jueves.
La banda inglesa también anunció un nuevo álbum, “Songs of A Lost World”, que saldrá a la venta el 1 de noviembre.
The Cure dio indicios de que tendría música nueva en las redes sociales compartiendo un fragmento de la canción que tiene sus características guitarras etéreas, percusión metálica y sintetizadores, y cuya letra dice: “Este es el final de cada canción que cantamos”.
“Es la pista que desbloqueó el disco; tan pronto como grabamos esa pieza musical, supe que era la canción de apertura, y sentí que todo el álbum se enfocaba”, dijo Smith en un comunicado de prensa. “Tan pronto como terminamos de grabar recordé el poema ‘Dregs’ del poeta inglés Ernest Dowson”, dijo. “Y ese fue el momento en que supe que la canción, y el álbum, eran reales”.
The Cure ha estado de gira en los años transcurridos desde su álbum anterior, “4:13 Dream” de 2008, pero aún no ha lanzado un nuevo álbum. En 2019, Smith le dijo a Rolling Stone que la banda había grabado 19 canciones, de entre 10 y 12 minutos de duración, y quería lanzar un nuevo álbum en Halloween de ese año. Pero no ocurrió.
Ahora, The Cure se une a una lista considerable de bandas que han tomado un segundo aire en 2024, que incluye a los íconos del britpop Oasis, que pusieron fin a una pausa de 15 años y, presumiblemente, a la larga enemistad entre los hermanos Liam y Noel Gallagher, así como Linkin Park con una nueva cantante, Emily Armstrong de Dead Sara, que ha dado sus primeras actuaciones desde la muerte de su vocalista Chester Bennington en 2017.
