Entre los cerca de 23 mil peloteros que han jugado en las Grandes Ligas en los últimos 150 años ninguno había tenido 50 jonrones y 50 bases robadas en una misma campaña —hasta ahora.
Shohei Ohtani se convirtió en el primer pelotero del club 50/50 al conectar su 51 jonrón y cometer su 51 hurto con los Dodgers de Los Ángeles.
Ohtani comenzó la jornada a dos jonrones y una estafa del club no inaugurado.
¿POR QUÉ RESUENA ESTO CON LOS FANÁTICOS?
Los jonrones y bases robadas están entre las estadísticas más populares —incluso podrían ser las más reconocidas en el deporte— ya sea la mayor cantidad de jonrones en una campaña (73) o la marca moderna de más estafas en un año (130). Por lo tanto, cuando un jugador alcanza lo que parecía un hito impensable, es algo destacable. Y los 50/50 representan precisamente algo que llegó a considerarse imposible.
Ohtani cautivo a la afición al hacer lo que nadie ha hecho en dos de las habilidades más admiradas de este deporte.
¿CUÁNTOS MIEMBROS ESTÁN EN EL CLUB DE LOS 40/40?
El 23 de agosto, Ohtani se convirtió en el sexto jugador en llegar al club de los 40-40 cuando se robó 40ma base ante Tampa Bay y bateó el grand slam del desempate en la novena frente a Colin Pache para llegar a 40 cuadrangulares.
El cubano José Canseco de Oakland se convirtió en el primer pelotero 40-40 en 1988 y desde entonces se le han unido Barry Bonds de San Francisco en 1996, Alex Rodríguez de Seattle en 1998, el dominicano Alfonso Soriano de Washington en 1996 y el venezolano Ronald Acuña Jr. de Atlanta en el 2023.
Canseco había manifestado públicamente la meta de convertirse en el primer jugador 40-40.
“Me siento aliviado que alguien lo logró”, dijo tras robarse dos bases en Milwaukee para alcanzar 40 en 154 juegos, cuatro después de que conectó su 40mo jonrón frente a Bret Saberhagen de Kansas City. “No quería que pasara la temporada y que me quedara corto y decir que metí la pata”.
¿CUÁNDO LLEGÓ EL PRIMER 30/30?
Sólo hay 72 peloteros en el club de los 30/30.
Ken Williams de los Browns de San Luis fue el primero en tener este logro en 1922, la segunda temporada después del final de la Dead Ball Era, en que las reglas desfavorecían el bateo. Nadie más lo hizo hasta Willie Mays con los Gigantes de Nueva York en 1956 y 1957.
