CIUDAD DE MÉXICO (AP) — La tormenta tropical Ileana se debilitó a depresión tropical, según indicó el domingo el Centro Nacional de Huracanes de Estados Unidos.
La tormenta se formó el jueves ante la costa pacífica de México y el sábado tocó tierra en la costa de Sinaloa, al día siguiente de golpear la región turística de Los Cabos.
El viento remitió el domingo a 55 kilómetros por hora, según un aviso de la Oficina Nacional de Administración Oceánica y Atmosférica de Estados Unidos (NOAA, por sus siglas en inglés), cuando Ileana estaba casi 45 km al suroeste de Los Mochis, México, y se desplazaba al oeste-noroeste a 4 km/h. Se esperaba que la tormenta se convirtiera en un ciclón postropical con vientos máximos sostenidos inferiores a 34 nudos.
El viernes se emitieron avisos de tormenta para zonas de la península de Baja California, incluidos Cabo San Lucas y San José del Cabo.
Juan Manuel Arce Ortega, de Protección Civil de Los Cabos, dijo que todos los municipios de La Paz y Los Cabos suspendieron las clases debido a la tormenta.
Las autoridades habilitaron 20 refugios temporales en San José del Cabo y Cabo San Lucas, según Protección Civil de Los Cabos.
Ileana era la única tormenta tropical activa el viernes en la cuenca del Pacífico oriental según el Servicio Meteorológico Nacional de Estados Unidos. En el Atlántico, el ciclón postropical Francine llevaba consigo fuertes lluvias a partes del sur de Estados Unidos, mientras que la tormenta tropical Gordon se formó el viernes en el océano Atlántico, y según los pronósticos, permanecerá en aguas abiertas durante varios días.
