La cantante cubana Omara Portuondo anuncia su retiro de los escenarios tras 79 años de carrera
El anuncio de su retiro ocurrió un día después de que la cantante “mostró signos de fatiga y desorientación” durante un concierto, situación que la obligó a abandonar el escenario.

CIUDAD DE MÉXICO (apro).- La mítica cantante cubana Omara Portuondo, de 93 años, comunicó que se retira de los escenarios, así lo compartió en un comunicado el jueves 3 de octubre Ariel Jiménez Portuondo, su hijo y mánager. El comunicado ocurrió un día después de que la cantante fue sacada en brazos del escenario por dos miembros de su orquesta durante su actuación en un festival en Barcelona.
El miércoles 3 de octubre, Omara Portuondo, con 79 años de carrera y que, además de ser solista de son y boleros, también perteneció a Buena Vista Social Club, se presentó en el festival Cruïlla Tardor 2024 en el Palau de la Música, en Barcelona, para ofrecer un concierto en compañía de la Orquesta Failde.
Desafortunadamente, Portuondo sólo pudo interpretar la canción “Quizás, quizás”, de Osvalo Farrés, pues, de acuerdo a su hijo, “mostró signos de fatiga y desorientación, por lo que consideraron que lo mejor era retirarla del escenario.
Jiménez Portuondo dijo en el comunicado publicado que tras ese hecho el retiro de su madre era definitivo. La cantante tenía programado un concierto este día en Budapest y, aunque confirmó su asistencia, mencionó que no cantará, sino que estará presente sólo para recibir un homenaje por parte de la Orquesta Failde y del público asistente.
Omara Portuondo nació en 1930 en La Habana, Cuba. Es considerada una de las cantes más importantes en la historia de su país, junto a artistas como Celia Cruz, Arsenio Rodríguez, Benny Moré, José Luis Cortés, Eliades Ochoa y Juan Formell.
Portuondo empezó su carrera en la Cuba prerrevolucionaria de finales de los años 30, cantando junto con su hermana Haydee, quien era bailarina en el mítico cabaret Tropicana. A inicios de 1950, pasó a formar parte de la Orquesta Anacaona y hacia 1953, junto a su hermana, Elena Burke y Moraima Secada fundaron formaron el cuarteto vocal Las d’Aida. Con el acompañamiento de la pianista Aída Diestro.
A inicios de la década de los 70 también formó parte de la Orquesta Aragón, una de las bandas de son cubano más emblemáticas de la isla. Gracias a un documental dirigido por Wim Wenders, en 1999 Portuondo saltó nuevamente al estrellato. En Buena Vista Social Club, la artista compartió escenario y estudios de grabación con Compay Segundo, Ibrahim Ferrer y Eliades Ochoa.
