MORELIA (AP).– La 22 edición del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM) recibirá a Francis Ford Coppola para una gran gala de “Megalopolis” (“Megalópolis”).
El director y guionista asistirá al festival el 22 de octubre en la capital del estado de Michoacán, donde recibirá el Premio a la Excelencia Artística del FICM como reconocimiento a su incomparable trayectoria de más de 60 años.
“Megalopolis” mezcla drama épico con ciencia ficción en una Nueva Roma (Nueva York) futurista y despiadada. Es protagonizada por Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight y Laurence Fishburne.
La primera película de Coppola en 13 años tiene un presupuesto de 120 millones de dólares que fueron financiados por el director. Está dedicada a su esposa Eleanor, fallecida en abril y con quien estuvo unido por 60 años.
“Tenía curiosidad por saber qué tipo de película podría hacer cuando fuera mayor”, dijo Coppola, de 85 años, en entrevista con AP después de su estreno en Cannes.
“Llevaba un álbum de recortes de las cosas que leía. Hice una colección de caricaturas políticas. Esas dicen toda una historia en una sola imagen. En última instancia, eso me llevó a hacer una epopeya romana ambientada en Estados Unidos moderno”.
“Megalopolis” se estrenará en cines de México el 24 de octubre.
El Premio a la Excelencia Artística del FICM ha sido otorgado a Alfonso Cuarón, Robert Redford, Claire Denis, Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Willem Dafoe y Jodie Foster.
