CIUDAD DE MÉXICO (apro).- Después de que el boxeador mexicano Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez volvió a subir al ring para enfrentar al puertorriqueño Edgar Berlanga en el T-Mobile de Las Vegas, Nevada, a quién venció en 12 rounds por decisión unánime, el pugilista fue cuestionado del por qué no noqueó a su rival, se molestó e, incluso, lanzó: “demostré que soy el mejor”.
El Canelo derrotó a Berlanga por decisión unánime de los jueces, sin embargo, apenas en el round tres, el mexicano lo mandó a la lona después de un potente gancho de izquierda e impuso su poderío. En el capítulo siete el puertorriqueño volvió a caer a lona, no obstante, en esta ocasión se debió a un resbalón.
Ante el resultado, en la conferencia de prensa posterior a la pelea, el Canelo fue cuestionado de por qué no pudo ganar por nocaut, el mexicano rápido contestó que demostró ser el mejor. Por otro lado, Álvarez expresó que un boxeador siempre quiere imponerse por la vía rápida, aunque deben darse varias condiciones para concretarlo.
“¿Para qué son los doce rounds? Ahora te pregunto yo a ti (Álvarez al periodista). Los doce rounds son para mostrar quién es el mejor. A veces se da el nocaut en el boxeo, a veces no se da, es impredecible. De querer noquear, claro que quieres, de que se dé…
“También tienes un rival enfrente que está haciendo su trabajo, que se está protegiendo, que está haciendo su trabajo para no ser noqueado. Es lo que pasa. De querer, claro que quiero, no se pudo, pero demostré que soy el mejor, para eso son los doce asaltos”, expresó Canelo.
Este resultado significó la primera derrota para Berlanga en su carrera, pues el boricua presumía una marca de 22 victorias, 17 de ellas desde la vía del cloroformo. Mientras que el “Canelo” presume de 62 triunfos, 39 de ellos por nocaut, dos derrotas y dos empates.
