NUEVA YORK (AP) — El vasto catálogo musical de Sean “Diddy” Combs ha experimentado un aumento de reproducciones desde su arresto y acusación formal la semana pasada.
La compañía de datos y análisis de la industria musical Luminate dijo que la música del magnate, que usaba varios apodos musicales, incluidos Diddy, Puff Daddy y P. Diddy, experimentó un aumento promedio del 18.3% en las reproducciones bajo demanda durante la semana de su arresto en comparación con la semana anterior.
George Howard, profesor de gestión de negocios musicales en el Berklee College of Music, dijo que no está sorprendido por el aumento. Para él, el streaming es similar a una búsqueda en Google del artista como medio para satisfacer la curiosidad.
“La música se convierte en otra pieza de información a medida que la gente trata de comprender las atrocidades”, dijo Howard a The Associated Press. “Es como, ‘¿Cómo sonaría su música alguien cuyo cerebro funciona así, supuestamente?'”.
Howard dijo que muchas personas probablemente piensan en Combs como un hombre de negocios antes de pensar en él como un músico. Combs ya no está afiliado a algunas de sus empresas como Revolt TV y la vodka Ciroc.
“La curiosidad natural que evocan este tipo de cargos tiene sentido”, dijo Howard. “Es como pasar cerca de un accidente automovilístico. La gente quiere mirar”.
No es raro que aumenten las cifras de streaming tras la polémica. Después de que un documental sobre R. Kelly acusara al astro de R& B de una conducta sexual inapropiada que involucra a mujeres y menores de edad, sus números casi se duplicaron.
Howard dijo que la “anonimización” del streaming también es un factor que podría haber llevado al aumento tanto para Combs como para Kelly. “Imagínate entrar a una tienda de discos ahora y decir: ‘Sí, quiero comprar este CD de Diddy'”, dijo.
Combs está acusado de cargos federales de tráfico sexual y asociación delictuosa, y la acusación, que detalla incidentes que se remontan a 2008, lo acusa de abusar, amenazar y coaccionar a mujeres durante años “para satisfacer sus deseos sexuales, proteger su reputación y ocultar su conducta”. Combs se ha declarado inocente de los cargos.
