CIUDAD DE MÉXICO (AP) — Un pescador brasileño vive una relación extraordinaria con un pingüino venido de muy lejos en el filme “My Penguin Friend (“Mi amigo el pingüino”).
La película de Lionsgate y Roadside Attractions está actualmente disponible para compra o renta en Estados Unidos y se encuentra en cartelera en cines de México. Es dirigida por David Schurmann y protagonizada por Jean Reno como el pescador João y por la actriz mexicana Adriana Barraza como su esposa María.
Al comienzo, João y María han perdido a un hijo pequeño. Muchos años después, el corazón de João parece recuperarse con el pingüino, pero la relación de ambos se ve amenazada cuando comienza a llamar la atención de la prensa y los científicos.
“Creo que la llegada del pingüino para João es recuperar un poco a su hijo fallecido; es muy bonito, muy significativo”, dijo Barraza.
La actriz, quien actualmente filma la serie “El gato” con Diego Boneta, Dolores Heredia y Alfonso Dosal, desconocía el caso del pingüino hasta que llegó el guion a sus manos.
En la vida real, el albañil brasileño de la tercera edad João Pereira de Souza le salvó la vida a un pingüino de Magallanes que encontró cubierto de petróleo en 2011. El pingüino, al que apodó Dindim, recorría cada año miles de kilómetros para visitar a su amigo humano y se quedaba con él por varios meses. Dindim le permitía a João que lo abrazara, algo que Barraza también pudo hacer durante el rodaje.
“Tuve el placer hermoso de haberlos tocado”, dijo la actriz, quien señaló que los pingüinos huelen a pescado, tienen un plumaje que es algo grasoso y son un poco fríos. “Es como un peluche muy bonito… Son animales, son seres vivos y hay que cuidarlos”.
Barraza dijo que filmaron con 10 pingüinos diferentes (los créditos incluyen a cada uno) así como con un animatronic, aunque la mayoría, dijo, fue hecho con los animales amaestrados.
La película fue filmada en Brasil en Ubatuba, en la costa del Atlántico, y en la ciudad histórica de Paraty, algo que Barraza calificó como una “hermosa experiencia”.
“Hay personas a las que les suceden milagros, de verdad, ese fue un milagro”, dijo sobre la peculiar historia de Joao. “Los animales son para mí los mensajeros que luego Dios te manda”.
