DEARBORN, Michigan, EE.UU. (AP) — Ford anuncia el retiro en Estados Unidos de más de 870 mil camionetas F-150, modelos 2021 a 2023, con sistemas de escape único, porque los frenos de estacionamiento eléctricos pueden activarse inesperadamente.
Las camionetas de Serie F de Ford son los vehículos de mayor venta en el país.
En documentos publicados por el organismo de seguridad del gobierno el viernes, la compañía indicó que un paquete del cableado trasero puede entrar en contacto con la carcasa del eje trasero. Esto puede rozar el cableado y provocar un cortocircuito que a su vez puede activar el freno de estacionamiento sin que lo haga el conductor, lo que incrementa el peligro de un choque.
El conductor puede ver una luz de advertencia y un mensaje en el tablero.
Ford informó en los documentos que tiene 918 reclamos de garantía y tres informes de roces de cableado en América del Norte. De estos, 299 indicaron la activación inesperada del freno de estacionamiento, y en 19 casos esto sucedió cuando el vehículo estaba en movimiento.
La empresa señaló que no sabe de choques o lesiones causados por el problema.
Los concesionarios inspeccionarán el cableado trasero. Si el recubrimiento protector está gastado, lo reemplazarán. Si no está gastado, agregarán protección adicional.
Los propietarios de las camionetas recibirán aviso por correo a partir del 11 de septiembre.
