Surfista australiano Khai Cowley murió tras ser atacado por un tiburón
El ataque ocurrió cuando el menor australiano estaba a 30 o 40 metros alejado de la costa y el tiburón lo mordió arrancándole una pierna, indicó un testigo a Adelaide Advertiser.

CIUDAD DE MÉXICO (apro). – El surfista australiano Khai Cowley, de 15 años, falleció después de ser atacado por un tiburón blanco en Ethel Beach, en la península de Yorke, Australia del Sur, donde practicaba junto a su padre, el 28 de diciembre del año pasado.
Un lugareño llamado Tim Philip se sumergió en el mar para rescatarlo, pero el joven promesa del Surf ya había fallecido.
“Yo diría que el tiburón medía cuatro metros y lo rodeaba, Estaba en el agua hasta la cintura y tomé la decisión de volver corriendo… agarrarlo, y logré arrastrarlo de regreso a la orilla, con la gente, en la playa”, contó a Seven News.
El ataque ocurrió cuando Khai estaba a 30 o 40 metros alejado de la costa y el tiburón lo mordió arrancándole una pierna, indicó un testigo a Adelaide Advertiser.
Su cuerpo fue recuperado en la costa cerca de Ethel Beach, en el Parque Nacional Innes, al oeste de Adelaide, su ciudad natal, indicó Sky Sports.
De acuerdo con Daily Mail, su abuelo Peter Baley, desconsolado, dijo que la familia está conmocionada por el apoyo de la comunidad por la tragedia.
“Es tan doloroso… Nunca había visto gente tan herida, sinceramente… es algo digno de contemplar. Sigo pensando que, en cualquier momento, entrará caminando por la puerta principal. Somos una familia fuerte y muy unida y lo superaremos”, aseguró a Nine News.
La tía de Khai, Lauryn, abrió una página de GoFoundMe para recaudar fondos para cubrir el costo del funeral. “Cualquier donación será muy apreciada”, indicó.
Khai fue parte de la tercera generación de surfistas en su familia. Su abuelo Pete Barley fue el líder y junto con su tío Adam lo guiaron en su carrera. Los tres ganaron premios en el Southern Surf Festival.
